CITY OF NEW YORK - FIRE DEPARTMENT
40 HOLDEN BLVD.
STATEN ISLAND, NY 10314
I guess by now, everyone has heard that the IRS will be taxing retirees who got out on a 3/4 pension.
There were stories going around that they would be taxed for all the years after their 20th year. The IRS had
been rolling this around for quite a while. Well this morning I received a phone call from Jim Dahl, the retiree
representative from the UFA. He advised me that Jim Sleven from the UFA had just finished meeting
with the IRS. The IRS informed Jim that they WILL NOT be taxing 3/4 retirees pensions. ALL RETIREES
ARE SAFE. However, and this does not affect us, future 3/4 retirees, starting in 2009, will have their
pensions taxed.
We here at the URFA will give everyone the full details, when we receive them. For now, you may
inform your membership of the news, which I sure will come as a relief.
John Sollazzo, President
Lt. Bernard Cornell, Ff. Dominick Montalto, Ff. Kevin Lennon, and
Lt.
Mike Lopez,
now known as the Bradford Street 4 (BS4), have all been recently
diagnosed with Cancer.
We are asking for your help so that the burden of this disease and
the associated costs of treatment
may be more tolerable for these four members.
The benefit will take place on
Saturday, November 1st
from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. @
Mulcahy's of Wantagh
Please show your support for four of New York's Bravest by attending the benefit or making a donation.

VETERANS RECORDS
The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has initiated online
records request procedures and is working to make it easier for
veterans
with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from
their
military files. Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased
former military members may now use a new online military personnel
records
system to request documents. Other individuals with a need for
documents
must still complete the Standard Form 180 which can be downloaded from
the online web site. The new web-based application was designed
to
provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records
center's
mailroom processing time. Also, because the requester will be
asked
to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request,
delays
that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional
information
will be minimized. Veterans and next of kin may access this
application
at
http://vetrecs.archives.gov.
